Sleep for Recovery and Performance in Elite Athletes

The presentation will provide an overview of sleep, its functions and importance for elite athletes. An over view of the literature concerning sleep and elite athletes will be provided, including characterizing their sleep, identified sleep issues and strategies to enhance sleep quality. In particular, sleep hygiene, sleep extension and nutritional strategies to enhance sleep will be discussed. The ultimate aim of the presentation is to raise awareness of this essential pillar of athlete performance, and to provide some functional tools that can be applied to the elite environment.
