Probiotics and Sleep – Improve Recovery from Gut-Brain-Axis
By Mr Frankie Siu
Sleep is a fundamental component of recovery, health and exercise performance. However, sleep disturbance is highly prevalent in athletic populations due to heavy training load, competition stress, travel and lifestyle demands.
This presentation explored the relationship between sleep, exercise performance and the role of the gut–brain axis. It introduced how the gut–brain axis may influence sleep through neural signaling, endocrine stress regulation, immune modulation and gut barrier integrity. Current evidence on probiotic supplementation in athletes was discussed, highlighting their potential benefits for sleep quality and recovery.
