Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme Marks New Milestone with First-Ever Recognition to Outstanding Athletes at the National Games for Persons with Disabilities

The HKSI and The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) jointly launched the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme (the Scheme) in 2023. The Scheme aims to encourage and honour Hong Kong athletes by providing cash incentives for their outstanding achievements at Major Games.

The three-year Scheme covers several Multi-sport Games and, for the first time, extends recognition to the National Games for Persons with Disabilities#, including the upcoming 12th edition, co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, with the main competition period running from 8 to 15 December 2025. The cash incentives for Hong Kong medallists at this Games are listed as follows (HK$):

Deputy Chairman of the HKJC, Mr Lester Huang SBS JP said “The Hong Kong team has written a new and glorious chapter in our city’s sporting history at the 15th National Games with a total of 19 medals, including 9 gold, 2 silver and 8 bronze. The Club has long promoted sport at community and elite levels, enabling people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to participate. We therefore wish every HKSAR athlete the very best of luck at the upcoming 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games.”

Chairman of the HKSI, Mr Tang King-shing GBS PDSM expressed his appreciation for the remarkable achievements of Hong Kong Para athletes at recent Major Games. “We are grateful to the HKJC for its longstanding commitment to the development of elite Para sports in Hong Kong. This marks the first time that cash incentives are being offered to local medallists at the National Games for Persons with Disabilities, providing significant encouragement and recognition for Para athletes. It is particularly exciting that Para taekwondo athlete Ho Nim-ching has already secured a bronze medal for the HKSAR Delegation. The HKSI wishes all athletes every success in making the most of the home advantage, showcasing their full potential and striving for excellence.”

#Eligibility under the Scheme is limited to competition events within the National Games for Persons with Disabilities. Cash incentives are not applicable to mass participation events within the Games, nor to any events held under the National Special Olympic Games.

Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme
Established by the HKSI in 1994, the Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme offers cash incentives to outstanding local athletes competing at Major Games, recognising their dedication and achievements.

In 2023, the HKJC once again supported the HKSI and jointly launched the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme for a three-year term. The Scheme provides financial incentives to acknowledge the exceptional achievements of local athletes competing at the Olympic Games, Winter Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Winter Paralympic Games, World University Games, Winter World University Games, Asian Games, Asian Winter Games, Asian Para Games, National Games, National Winter Games and National Games for Persons with Disabilities.
