HKSI and Sichuan Province Orthopedic Hospital Sign MOU to Strengthen Sports Medicine Collaboration and Support for Elite Athletes

The HKSI and the Sichuan Province Orthopedic Hospital today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing sports medicine support for elite athletes and advancing the development of the field.

Mr Tony Choi Yuk-kwan MH, Chief Executive of the HKSI and Mr Li Daopi, President of the Sichuan Province Orthopedic Hospital signed the MOU, under the witness of Mr Deng Zhengquan, Director-General of the Health Commission of Sichuan Province, Mr Fu Qihua, President of the Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Miss Gloria Tse Yi-lam,  Acting Principal Assistant Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism (Sports & Recreation) and Hon Vincent Cheng Wing-shun BBS MH JP, Vice-Chairman of the HKSI.

In his opening remarks, Hon Vincent Cheng noted that over two decades of collaboration between the HKSI and the Sichuan Province Orthopedic Hospital had laid a solid foundation for further cooperation in sports medicine, “With the wealth of experience and shared vision of both organisations, we are confident that this partnership will strengthen support for elite athletes, while promoting sports medicine innovation, talent development and knowledge exchange. The partnership also aligns with the National 15th Five-Year Plan and the HKSAR Government’s policy direction for sports development”.

Mr Deng Zhengquan added, “Through this collaboration, we hope to make a greater contribution to the elite sports development in both the nation and Hong Kong. We also look forward to further expanding cooperation between Sichuan and Hong Kong in areas including talent exchange, healthcare services and sustained professional exchange”.

Under the MOU, the HKSI and the Sichuan Province Orthopedic Hospital have established a strategic partnership to deepen collaboration in sports medicine. Key initiatives include designating the Sichuan Province Orthopedic Hospital as one of the rehabilitation hospitals for the HKSI Scholarship Athletes, implementing professional exchange and training programmes, enhancing collaboration in sports injury medication, and jointly undertaking sports medicine research and academic exchange activities.

As the Government’s elite sport training systems delivery agent, the HKSI shares with the Sichuan Provincial Orthopedic Hospital a common commitment to supporting elite athletes and advancing sports medicine development. This MOU marks a new milestone in the partnership between the two organisations. Both parties will work together to strengthen medical support for athletes and help them excel on the international stage.
