180 Coaches Attend Hongkong Bank Foundation CCEP Seminar

The Hong Kong Coaching Committee (HKCC) organised the “Application of Fitness Tests in Sports Training” seminar on 28 January which received high appreciations from about 180 attendants.

The HKCC has been organising a series of workshops and seminars through the Continuing Coach Education Programme (CCEP) since 1992, with an aim to provide update of knowledge to local accredited coaches which help them nurture the next generation of sport. Professor Stanley Hui from the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education of The Chinese University of Hong Kong was invited to speak at the seminar in January. Professor Hui is also the Vice-Chairperson of the Physical Fitness Association of Hong Kong, China. He has extensive experience in research analysis on fitness testing and measurement aspect such as energy consumption level in sport games and testing and measurement of percent body fat which help understand the ways of improving athletes’ performances.

During the seminar, Professor Hui introduced some up-to-date fitness testing and measurement techniques including validity, reliability, objectivity, specificity and practicality. He then further explained the three applications in fitness testing including the PACER test, Yo-Yo test and Strength test. Through a case study on hurdler Liu Xiang with a comparison on his knee peak force torque and averaged power in different years, Professor Hui shared with all coaches how testing and measurement techniques effectively assist athletes improve their sporting performances.

So Chun-nam from the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association said after the seminar, “I have been joining nine seminars organised by the HKCC in the past two years. It covers a wide range of topics from coaching methods to management skills and even legal aspect in coaching which enable me to acquire new knowledge each time. It also provides a platform for local coaches from different sports to meet and exchange thoughts and skills in coaching.”

The HKCC was set up in 1991 and the Hong Kong Coach Education Programme (HKCEP) has been funded by the Hongkong Bank Foundation with a total commitment of more than HK$21 million since 1992. Throughout the years, over 60,000 coaches have benefited from the training and recognition programmes in the HKCEP. Apart from the CCEP, other major components of the HKCEP include Hongkong Bank Foundation Coach Accreditation Programme, Hongkong Bank Foundation School Coach Accreditation Programme, Hongkong Bank Foundation School Coach seminar and Hongkong Bank Foundation Coaching Awards.
