Highlights of the year included the HKSI Open Day on 27 and 28 January 2018. With over 4,500 members of the public enrolling for over two days of fun-filled activities, the event offered the opportunity for the participants to experience the HKSI’s world-class training venues for elite athletes, as well as to meet sports stars and learn about the training system and work of the HKSI.

The first day was exclusively designed for schools. Students from 46 schools and education organisations, including those under the HKSI’s Elite Athlete-friendly School Network and Partnership School Programme, toured the various world-class training facilities and took part in fitness tests, sports talks and athletes’ sharing sessions. The second day featured various activities such as a “Meet the Athletes” session, a “Sports Psychology Talk” and a series of sports demonstrations and tryouts. In addition, guided tours were organised to introduce the daily training environment of elite athletes. Participants were impressed by the HKSI’s comprehensive training system and all-round support provided for elite athletes.

They were well received by sports fans and the public, and had attracted over 3,400 followers by 31 March 2018.

The public education programmes of the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme were held during the year to encourage athletes and recognise their outstanding results at Major Games, and to inspire and drive the community, especially young people, to appreciate and support Hong Kong athletes. As part of the initiative, the “Support HK Sports Aces” Facebook page was officially launched in September 2017. A series of school visits commenced in November 2017, with 10 athletes from rugby, squash, table tennis, tennis and wushu visiting five local schools to share their experiences as elite athletes, and interact with students through games and demonstrations.

In addition, a total of 23 athletes were lined up as guests for sharing sessions, seminars and promotional activities for 35 organisations.
