The Hong Kong athletics team won 3 silver medals at the Thailand Open Track and Field Championships held on 29 September - 2 October in Bangkok, Thailand.

Throwing athlete Chiu Lap-san won 1 gold and 1 silver medal at the 87^th Malaysian Open Athletics Championship held on 30 - 31 October in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Hong Kong badminton team won 2 silver and 1 bronze medal at the Yonex-Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix held on 5 - 10 October in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Cyclist Steven Wong won a gold medal in the Elite Men event at the 5^th Asian BMX Championships held on 30 September - 1 October in Jecheon City, Korea.

The Hong Kong squash team won 2 gold and 4 bronze medals at the Crocodile Squash Challenge Cup held on 27 - 31 October in Hong Kong .

The Hong Kong table tennis team won 1 gold and 3 bronze medals at the Hungarian Open held on 13 -17 October in Budaors, Hungary.

Table tennis athletes Jiang Tianyi and Tang Peng won a gold medal in the Men’s Doubles event at the Austrian Open held on 20 - 24 October in Wels, Austria.

Tennis athlete Lin Wing-man won a gold medal in the Girls’ Doubles event at the Hong Kong Open Junior Championships held on 4 - 9 October.

Tenpin bowling athlete Li Siu-tsun won a silver medal in the Youth Under 18 Masters event at the 36^th Hong Kong International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships held on 10 - 18 September.

The Hong Kong triathlon team won 4 gold medals at the Desaru International Long Distance & Sprint Triathlon held on 2 October in Johor, Malaysia.

The Hong Kong triathlon team won 5 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals at the Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Asian Cup held on 23 - 24 October.

The Hong Kong windsurfing team won 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals at the RS:X Asian Windsurfing Championships held on 1 - 10 October in Penghu, Taiwan.

Windsurfing athlete Chan King-yin won a gold medal in the IMCO Men event at the RS:X Penghu Open Class Championships held on 9 October in Penghu, Taiwan.

To boost the morale of Hong Kong athletes participating in the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games and the Asian Para Games, the HKSI and Hang Seng Bank once again joined hands to offer cash incentives to local medallists at the two Games through the Hang Seng Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme.

To gain more public support for the Hong Kong athletes, two short videos were specially produced before the start of the Games and broadcast on 3,200 buses around the territory from 1 November and on the giant screens at the Victoria Park and Urban Council Centenary Park from 12 November. In addition, a cheer-up activity was held on 1 November with over 30 Hang Seng staff members coming to the HKSI headquarters to send their best wishes to the athletes.

The Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing, together with representatives from the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation, the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association and the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association, visited the HKSI on 9 November and toured the redeveloped facilities at the site. He also exchanged views with HKSI athletes, coaches and other sports bodies on Hong Kong’s potential bid to host the 2023 Asian Games.

Following the completion of the first phase of the HKSI Redevelopment Project earlier this year, members of the Legislative Council’s Panel on Home Affairs, including Chairman Ip Kwok-him, Deputy Chairman Kam Nai-wai, Timothy Fok and Wong Yuk-man, as well as member of the Finance Committee Chan Mo-po, visited the HKSI on 6 October to understand the progress of the Redevelopment Project, and toured the upgraded and expanded facilities at the site.

Three recipients of a traveling fellowship offered by the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy led by Prof. Philippe Beaufils visited the HKSI on 22 October. They exchanged views with the HKSI in elite training and toured the HKSI’s elite sports training facilities.

Thirteen sports science students led by a faculty member from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines visited the HKSI on 25 - 26 October. During their 2-day visit, students received lectures and demonstrations presented by HKSI staff on the Institute’s services including sports science, sports medicine, and strength and conditioning. The students also toured the HKSI’s elite sports training facilities.
