MOU for Collaboration

The HKSI signed a MOU with the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) on 17 January 2023 for their future collaboration on innovations, reinforcing the recognition of their concerted efforts to develop next-generation high-performance sportswear and devices tailored for different sports. The HKSI and HKRITA will establish a Joint Research Center/Platform to support elite athletes of the HKSI. The research and development covers areas including, but not limited to, high performance sportswear, footwear, wearable devices, and bedding systems.

On 7 March 2023, the HKSI signed a MOU with The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) for the establishment of the HKUST – HKSI Joint Center for Sports Science and Technology. The Center will explore the integration of research and technology into sports, promote innovation in sports science, and seek to optimise elite athletes’ performance at international competitions.

6th Annual Congress of ASIA

Hosted by the HKSI, the Annual Congress of the Association of Sports Institutes in Asia (ASIA) was held from 17 to 18 March 2023 at the HKSI under the theme “Support That Enables Sports and Athletes to Excel - From the Starting Line to the Podium”.

Speakers shared the latest development of elite sports in their cities or countries and the challenges they had encountered. The Congress served as a platform for policy-makers and administrators, sports scientists, coaches, athletes and educators who were interested in enhancing the future of Asian sports to communicate and exchange ideas on their successful experiences in scientific high performance training, attracting over 130 participants.

ASIA is the first association bringing together the region’s high performance training centres, and was founded by the HKSI, the Singapore Sport Institute, the Japan Sport Council and the Aspire Academy in 2015. Currently ASIA has 21 member institutes from 16 different countries and regions.

HKASMSS AFSM & AFC Sports Medicine Summit

Co-organised by the HKSI, the Sports Medicine and Sports Science Association of Hong Kong, China (HKASMSS), the Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM) & Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Sports Medicine Summit 2022 was held on 17 December 2022 at the HKSI. Speakers provided insights into the development of sports medicine, sports injury and rehabilitation.

The HKSAR Chief Executive Mr John Lee Ka-chiu toured the HKSI facilities and met athletes.

 

Visitors to HKSI

The HKSAR Chief Executive Mr John Lee Ka-chiu, accompanied by Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ms Carol Yip Man-kuen, Director of the Chief Executive's Office; Mr Joe Wong Chi-cho, Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; and Mr Yeung Tak-keung, the then Commissioner for Sports, toured the HKSI on 16 August 2022 and met with elite athletes, including junior athletes from different sports to understand how they balance their sports training and academic pursuits.

During 2022/23, the HKSI also received Dr Gabriel Leung, Executive Director, Charities and Community, The Hong Kong Jockey Club, to tour the elite training facilities.

Mr David Costello, Consul General of Ireland to Hong Kong & Macau; Mr Amir Lati, Consul General of the State of Israel in Hong Kong and Macau; and Mr Alan Goh, Chief Executive Officer (Designate) of Sport Singapore, also visited the HKSI.
