To celebrate the development of Hong Kong elite sports during the past 30 years and the remarkable success of athletes, a set of logos featuring sports with medals won at the Olympics and Paralympics were created. A photo collage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic medallists with the 30th anniversary logo were displayed on the facade of the HKSI Main Building and a range of souvenirs were produced for distribution to the HKSI stakeholders, sponsors and partners.

The Hong Kong Elite Athletes Raceday celebrated Hong Kong athletes’ success and the 30th anniversary of the HKSI.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club staged the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Raceday at Sha Tin Racecourse in December 2021. Officiated by the then HKSAR Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam, the Raceday highlighted two feature races, the HKSI 30th Anniversary Cup and the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Cup. Seven races were named after the seven sports that produced medals at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

The HKSI’s first-ever shopping mall roadshow introduced the HKSI’s history and illustrated the milestones of the sports development of Hong Kong.

Other Collaborations

Hong Kong athletes’ success at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics enhanced the community’s engagement and interest in elite sports. The HKSI organised its first-ever shopping mall roadshow in collaboration with shopping malls under Henderson Land Group in October 2021 and engaged over 15,000 participants. A total of 28 athletes participated in the events over four consecutive weekends.

The HKSI supported the exhibition organised by the Hong Kong Chronicles Institute and the Our Hong Kong Foundation about the history of sports development in Hong Kong. The exhibition was held at the Olympian City from September to October 2021, attracting around 34,000 visitors.

HKSI – Hang Seng Bank “Community in Action” Programme

Launched in May 2019, the three-year HKSI – Hang Seng Bank “Community in Action” programme entered its third year and continued to promote sports in the community and encourage the whole-person development of athletes.

During the year, 18 elite athletes were invited to conduct 15 online or face-to-face sharing sessions, engaging over 4,100 students. Two HKSI Virtual School Days were organised in November 2021 for primary school students to tour around the HKSI’s training facilities via a virtual video and meet with athletes, for which over 3,300 students enrolled. A workshop was also organised for athletes to equip them with different personal development skills. The programme was also promoted to the public through its dedicated Facebook page and Instagram account, which in total attracted over 11,300 likes and followers as of 31 March 2022.

Promotional Activities

The HKSI official Facebook page, Instagram and WeChat accounts and YouTube channel continued to be well received by sports fans and the public, accumulating over 29,600 likes and followers as of 31 March 2022.

To enhance public engagement leading to the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, an online game was launched to encourage the public to be physically active and support Hong Kong athletes. A set of three Instagram filters, and two sets of WhatsApp stickers featuring top ranking elite athletes and coaches at the two Games, were launched and reached over 83,000 downloads in total.

During the year, a total of 26 athletes were invited as guests at sharing sessions, seminars and promotional activities for 59 organisations.
