Income

The allocation from the Elite Athletes Development Fund (“EADF”) is the HKSI’s main source of income. Total EADF allocation received by the HKSI in 2020/21 was HK$737 million (2019/20: HK$664.5 million), of which HK$143.9 million is designated to “Direct Financial Support to Athletes” (“DFS”), and the balance of HK$593.1 million is the funding for Elite Training Programme and the HKSI’s operations.

Expenditure

Total expenditure for 2020/21 was HK$648 million, which is lower than 2019/20 by 12%. The lower expenditure in 2020/21 reflected mainly the impact of the pandemic on elite training programmes during the year. Throughout 2020/21, the international competition scene and overseas training remained extremely limited and COVID-19 measures including mandatory quarantine significantly restricted access to international events or training venues.

Surplus

As a result of the lower expenditure, a surplus of HK$139.4 million for the year was reported.
