International Scientific Symposium 2013 -
Emerging technologies for sports performance enhancement

The annual International Scientific Symposium organised by the HKSI will be held on 15 - 16 March 2013 (Friday and Saturday) at the HKSI, with the aim to examine, exchange ideas and stimulate discussion on the development and application of technologies in enhancing sports performance.

Representatives from local and overseas counterparts visit HKSI

Mr Mark Sutcliffe, new Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Football Association, visited the HKSI on 10 October, during which he met with the HKSI Management and toured the HKSI¡¦s facilities to gain an understanding of Hong Kong¡¦s elite training system, and to explore collaboration opportunities. The HKSI also received a delegation from the Singapore Sports School on 24 October, where the visitors were introduced to the support provided to local elite athletes and guided on a tour of the facilities on the premises, and a group of sports science interns from the University of Santo Tomas of the Philippines on 24 and 25 October to take a series of lectures taught by our experts in various departments under the Elite Training Science and Technology Division.

Elite athletes show care for the elderly

Organised by the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association and the Elite Athlete Charitable Trust, the annual ¡§Together We Care 2012¡¨ was successfully held on 4 November with the full support of the HKSI. In addition to helping arrange athletes and their family members to attend a press conference held at the HKSI in late October to encourage the public to care about the elderly, the HKSI also lined up a number of athletes to take part in the preparation of goodies bags for distribution to the elderly. A kick-off ceremony was held at the HKSI on the event day, after which over 1,500 volunteers, including more than 10 athletes, headed off to eight districts around Hong Kong to send goodies bags and greetings to 2,000 singleton elderly.

Kowloon Dairy continues to support HKSI

This year, Kowloon Dairy continues its support for local elite sport development through a mascot and parent-child design competition and mini sports games, encouraging kindergarten and primary school students from over 100 schools in Hong Kong to take part and create unique mascot handicraft with milk boxes. The company committed to make donations to the HKSI Sport Scholarship Scheme, and a cheque presentation ceremony was held on 29 September.

Li Ching speaks at ING (Hong Kong) Life

Table tennis player Li Ching was invited to speak at an ING (Hong Kong) Life internal seminar on 8 October, where he shared his story and experience with the participants. In addition, he was invited to play table tennis with some ING staff right after his presentation as a highlight of the event.

Yu Chui-yee attends Kowloon Watch 60th anniversary event

Wheelchair fencer Yu Chui-yee, who truly embodies the Hong Kong spirit with her unrelenting perseverance in life and her sporting career, was invited by Kowloon Watch Group to attend the kick-off ceremony for its 60th anniversary exhibition on 3 October, where the fencer shared her key to success.

Sport Psychology : a student¡¦s handbook

This book introduces the basic principles of sport psychology and it covers all key issues with illustrated examples on sport psychology. Content covers personality and sport, attitudes to sport, aggression in sport, the social factors affecting performance, arousal and anxiety, and motivation and skill acquisition. This book also emphasizes on the importance of developing creative and critical thinking. It also includes chapters covering research and writing essays in sport psychology, as well as reflective exercises throughout the book. This book is a good reference for athletes, coaches, athletes administration staff as well as psychology and sport science students.
