International Scientific Symposium ˇV Sportswear for elite performance enhancement

The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) is organising the 4th International Scientific Symposium to be held on Saturday, 21 March 2009 in Hong Kong, with the main theme ˇ§Sportswear for elite performance enhancementˇ¨.

The symposium will bring together international and local experts to share knowledge on the role of sportswear in elite performance enhancement, and technological advancements in respect to sportswear design and manufacturing in Hong Kong. Besides, a practical application session (sportswear demonstration) would also be staged.

Hongkong Bank Foundation Continuing Coach Education Programme (CCEP) Seminar

A seminar on ˇ§Tips for training knee and ankle injured athletesˇ¨ organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee was held on 9 January 2009 at the Olympic House. Alex Luk, HKSI Sport Physiotherapist, highlighted the points to note in training athletes with knee and ankle injuries. About 230 coaches attended the seminar.

Yu Chui-yee speaks at Manulife agency meeting again

After participating in Manulife's staff meeting last year, multiple Paralympic-medal winning athlete Yu Chui-yee was invited again to speak at the company's agency annual meeting for managers on 8 January 2009 in Shenzhen. Yu's success story on how to overcome barriers to become a world champion motivated participants to face challenges of the global financial tsunami.

Wong Kam-po promotes charity event of Pok Oi Hospital

As a pioneer in local charity, Pok Oi Hospital is organising the inaugural ˇ§HSBC Pok Oi Cycle For Millionsˇ¨ to be held on 15 March 2009 in Tai Po and Sha Tin districts. Cyclist Wong Kam-po has been appointed as the ambassador of the event. He attended a press conference on 13 January 2009 to arouse public awareness of this energetic and meaningful fundraising activity, which also promoted local cycling development. Apart from athletes, Pok Oi also invited the HKSI and many units to support this event, including government departments, district boards, sports organisations, commercial sectors, media, and artists.

Representative of Australia's Department of Sport and Recreation visits HKSI

Tricia Heberle, Senior Consultant - High Performance, Department of Sport and Recreation, Australia visited the HKSI on 13 January 2009. She exchanged views with the HKSI management on elite training and support services, and toured the Institute's elite sports training facilities at Wu Kai Sha.

Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs Jonathan McKinley visits HKSI

Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs Jonathan McKinley visited the HKSI's temporary headquarters in Wu Kai Sha on 14 January 2009. He met the HKSI management and head coaches, and toured the elite training facilities to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Institute's operations.
