Gymnast Ng Kiu-chung back among the medals
Hong Kong gymnast Ng Kiu-chung has returned to action and rediscovered his best form just in time for the upcoming World University Games and World Gymnastics Championships, after a tough battle with injury for almost two years.

Ng was back among the medals in May, first with a bronze at the 13th FIG World Challenge Cup held from 12 to 14 May in Koper, Slovenia, then bagging silver at the 7th Senior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships held from 18 to 21 May in Bangkok, Thailand.

"This medal reminds me that I have the strength to compete at the upcoming world events with confidence." said rings specialist Ng.

"I did not want to get my hopes up before the event, just wanted to do the usual training, get into the final and fight."

"After the injury, I have been able to let go more, not put myself under pressure, so maybe this mentality worked well in both events."

And Ng said he hoped the medals would serve him well at the upcoming major events over the next year.

"The World University and Asian Games are two big goals of mine," he said. "The World Cup result is a good help showing I have the strength to fight, and the Asian Championship silver is definitely a strong sign for the Asian Games."

Xiong Songliang, a former Olympian with China and world championships gold-medal winning coach with Australia, took over as Head Gymnastics Coach at HKSI in 2016 and said he was delighted with Ng's comeback.

"We are very happy and quite pleased with his great results in these events," said Xiong. "Particularly as he has stopped competing for almost two years due to his injuries. Chung's outstanding attitude shows real sporting spirit."

"He never gave up and kept believing, working towards his dream."

"At the World University Games in August he will challenge for a gold medal on the rings and at the World Championships in October he can aim at least for the top eight, and he will definitely be a medal chance at the Asian Games next year."

Silver and gold for Yu Chui-yee at Wheelchair Fencing World Cup
Yu Chui-yee enjoyed a successful trip to Stadskanaal, the Netherlands for the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup from 12 to 14 May, medalling in both foil and epee.

In two nail-biting finals, the five-time Paralympics champion (individual event) beat Ukraine's Yevheniia Breus 15-14 in the epee, and was just a point from making it two golds, losing in the foil by the same score to world No.1 Zsuzsanna Krajnyak of Hungary.

The results should give Yu confidence for the upcoming World Championships, which will be held in Rome in November.
