HKSI collaborates with two Mainland China sports institutes on elite training

The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) has signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with two major sports institutes in the Mainland, Nanjing Sport Institute (NSI) and Shanghai Sports Institute (SSI), to further enhance the scientific sports training and educational support to Hong Kong elite athletes.

In late July, Dr Trisha Leahy, Chief Executive of HKSI led a delegation, including Margaret Siu, Head, Coaching Support Services, Dr Raymond So, Sports Science & Medicine Coordinator, and Hui Jun, Head Table Tennis Coach, to visit the NSI and SSI. The collaboration includes the mutual exchange of sports science and medicine specialists, provision of sport science and medicine services to support training in partnering institutes, and educational exchanges between partnering institutes. In addition to signing the collaboration agreements, the delegation also toured the training venues and facilities of both institutes.

Dr Trisha Leahy reiterated the importance of international collaborations to HKSI¡¦s elite training support. She said, ¡§The visits pave the way for establishing a mechanism for elite training and educational exchanges in Nanjing and Shanghai in near future. I am sure local elite athletes will greatly benefit from these partnerships, and Hong Kong¡¦s sports competition level in the international sporting arena will also be raised in the long run.¡¨

The HKSI signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with five sports institutes from the Mainland China last year, namely China Institute of Sport Science, National Institute of Sports Medicine, Beijing Sport University, Wuhan Institute of Physical Education, and Chengdu Sport University.
