Hong Kong team wins 18 medals at the 1st Asian Youth Games

Congratulations to the Hong Kong team for winning 5 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals ¡V ranking 5th on the medal tally ¡V at the 1st Asian Youth Games held on 27 June ¡V 7 July in Singapore.

A total of 46 young athletes (aged 18 or below) represented Hong Kong in 6 sports: athletics, bowling, football, swimming, table tennis and windsurfing. Athletes who achieved medals at the Games were awarded scholarships at a presentation ceremony held on 29 July at the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI). The ceremony was officiated by Victor Hui SBS JP, Chef de Mission of the Hong Kong Delegation and Jonathan McKinley, Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs.


Hong Kong team (Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped) wins 28 medals at the 2nd Global Games

Congratulations to the Hong Kong team (Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped) for winning 10 gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze medals ¡V ranking 4th on the medal tally ¡V at the 2nd Global Games held on 5 ¡V 13 July in Liberec, Czech Republic. Both the total number of medals and gold medals had exceeded that achieved in the 1st Global Games: 26 medals and 7 gold medals.

A total of 26 athletes represented Hong Kong in 3 sports: athletics, swimming and table tennis.


Badminton team wins 3 medals at the Gold Grand Prix Badminton Championships

The Hong Kong badminton team won 2 silver and 1 bronze medal at the Gold Grand Prix Badminton Championship held on 1 ¡V 5 July in Manila, The Philippines.

The Hong Kong fencing team won 1 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals at the Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships held on 16 ¡V 21 July in Singapore.

The Hongkong Bank Foundation Continuing Coach Education Programme (CCEP)

A seminar on ¡§Statistical Research Methods in Sports¡¨ organised by the Hong Kong Coaching Committee was held on 9 July at the Productivity Training Institute. Professor Qi Guoying, Professor of the Beijing Sport University, introduced the concepts and methods of sports statistics. Around 100 coaches attended the seminar.

Member of the Sports Committee of the German Parliament visits HKSI

Detlef Parr, Member of the Sports Committee of the German Parliament, visited the HKSI¡¦s temporary headquarters on 4 August. He met with the HKSI management and toured the elite training facilities at the site, gaining an understanding of the operations of the Institute and the HKSI Redevelopment Project.

The latest edition is updated with the latest research findings, and includes valuable information for readers¡¦ reference, for instance, dietary reference intakes, normative tables for overweight and obesity, and up-to-date indexes for monitoring changes in health status. This is a good reference for students, athletes and trainers.
 
Nancy Clark's sports nutrition guidebook 4th edition

The book was published by Human Kinetics in 2008 and written by Nancy Clark, an internationally known sports nutritionist and nutrition author. The latest edition has taken into account the new food choices/companies as well as the fad diets that have come along since the 2003 edition. It also helps teaching people how to fuel themselves for sports performance, good health and weight management and how to overcome eating disorders. The nutrition tips are useful to both competitive athletes as well as casual exercisers looking for a healthy lifestyle. The frequent use of charts and diagrams and her enthusiastic presentation make the book a winner. This surely is a good reference for health professionals and exercise enthusiasts.
