Athletes participate in the 5th East Asian Games promotional activities

An promotional event called ¡§Promotion of Hong Kong Athletes¡¦ Readiness in participating in the 5th East Asian Games ¡V Sports Demonstration and Participation¡¨ was held by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China at the Hong Kong International Trade and Exhibition Centre on 6 - 9 July to arouse the public¡¦s awareness about Hong Kong athletes¡¦ preparation for the forthcoming East Asian Games, and provide them with the opportunities to explore the fun of the different competition sports.

The event was divided into three main parts, namely the Sports Talks, the Exhibition Panels and the Sports Demonstration and Participation. The HKSI fully supported the event, and assisted in lining up a team of athletes from different Elite Sports to participate in the Sports Talks, where they introduced the different competition sports, as well as to take part in the sports demonstration.

Published by Wiley-Blackwell in 2008 and edited by Martin P. Schwellnus, the reference is a new volume in the Encyclopaedia of Sports Medicine; and is a collection of articles written by experts in the respective fields. It presents medical conditions, in a clinical approach, that athletes may suffer from during training and competition; those specific to major body systems; and those in athletes with disabilities, genetics and exercise and emergency sports medicine. The book is an invaluable guidance for all medical practitioners and health personnel who serve athletes and sports teams.
 
Diabetic athlete¡¦s handbook ¡V your guide to peak performance

The handbook is published by Human Kinetics in 2009 and authored by Sheri Colberg, a diabetic athlete and a professor of exercise science in Virginia, USA. It demonstrates how diabetic athletes can manage their diabetes and achieve the desired performance. It contains thorough information on blood sugar regulation and medications, nutrition and supplements, injury prevention and treatment, mental strategies for maximising performance and optimising health, and special insulin regimen advice. In addition to numerous tables and charts, the author includes success stories of diabetic athletes from different countries. The text is comprehensive and easy to read, and is an indispensable text for diabetic athletes and other sports professionals who train with them.
