HKSI – Hang Seng Bank “Community In Action” Programme

The HKSI and Hang Seng Bank launched a three-year programme titled “Community In Action” on 2 May 2019. Over 110 primary school students and teachers joined the guests to kick off the new programme in a positive and cheerful atmosphere. The new initiative aims to promote sports in the community and encourage whole-person development of athletes.

During the year, 17 elite athletes were invited to various school activities, engaging over 2,200 participants. The athletes introduced students to the possibility of sports as a career option in school visits, and brought the sporting spirits of athletes to the community through a university fashion show and a hospital visit. Workshops and camps were organised for athletes to equip them with diverse abilities, such as team building. To promote the programme to the public, a Facebook page and an Instagram account were launched in May 2019, which in total attracted over 3,000 likes and followers as of 31 March 2020.

HKSI Open Day

The HKSI hosted the BOCOM HKSI Open Day 2020 on 11 and 12 January, where participants explored the world-class training facilities for elite athletes, met with medal-winning athletes and learnt about the HKSI’s elite training system.

The first day was exclusively for the title sponsor Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) Limited, with around 1,100 staff and guests participating, while the second day was open to the public and attracted more than 5,000 enrolments. The two-day event featured guided tours to showcase the HKSI’s state-of-the-art training facilities. Activities such as meeting elite athletes, photo taking, sports demonstrations and tryouts, as well as sports talent challenges were organised for the participants to unleash their sports potential, boost interest in sports and understand the value of sportsmanship.

Other Collaborations

The HKSI arranged an exhibition booth at the 62nd Festival of Sport – Carnival cum Opening Ceremony organised by the SF&OC from 5 to 7 April 2019 at Kowloon Park. Four athletes were invited as guests to the opening ceremony and shared their experiences with attendees. Over 2,000 participants visited the HKSI booth.

The HKSI also participated in the Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo 2019 from 17 to 23 July 2019. The seven-day event was organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, alongside the 30th Hong Kong Book Fair. Nearly a million people attended, including 6,000 visiting the HKSI booth.

Promotional Activities

The HKSI official Facebook page, Instagram account and YouTube channel continued to be well received by sports fans and the public, accumulating over 17,000 likes and followers as of 31 March 2020. The HKSI website has also been redesigned in order to enhance its corporate image.

The HKSI Sports Complex concourse exhibition areas were redesigned to highlight the talent and strong fighting spirit of Hong Kong athletes. A 2020 corporate calendar adopting the same theme and design was also produced, alongside a series of new corporate souvenirs. Over 10 HKSI promotional videos were publicly broadcast at a shopping mall promoting the lifestyle of elite athletes.

A total of 27 athletes participated as guests at sharing sessions, seminars and promotional activities for 18 organisations.

Media

The HKSI Chairman Dr Lam Tai-fai was invited to host a new sports programme series, in which he shared his views on local sports development with the public. Seven notable guests from the sports sector were interviewed, and the series of eight episodes was aired on an online media platform and a TV channel from March 2020.

In 2019/20, the HKSI issued 32 media releases and invitations, arranged 113 interviews, and logged 4,497 newspaper articles related to the HKSI activities.
