Research Assistant (database/software systems management) (SIC)

The Hong Kong Sports Institute Limited (“HKSI”) is the Government’s delivery agent to provide the high performance training system for eligible sports. The HKSI’s mission is to provide an environment in which sports talent can be identified, nurtured and developed to pursue excellence in the international sporting arena benchmarked at Major Games results. We are now inviting suitable candidates for the following vacancy:


The Job

Reporting to the Sports Science Technician of the Sports Information and External Affairs Centre, the Research Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • To manage the HKSI’s New Athletes Management System (NAMS) in the Elite Training Science and Technology Division;
  • To assist in the introduction of NAMS across the Hong Kong Sports Institute;
  • To manage the NAMS and assist colleagues, coaches, and athletes in its use and troubleshoot day-to-day operations;
  • To assist with the development of the NAMS so that it can be refined in a bi-spoke way for end users;
  • To work with the Sport Science Technical to process data processing, generate statistics analysis and reviews of NAMS;
  • To attend meetings, as required to seek feedback and to explore the technical requirements of all service users in order to develop and improve the service;
  • To assist the Assistant Sports Information and Database Manager in managing the operations of Sports Library, the e library system, the library users’ database and library services to all users;
  • To perform any other duties assigned by supervisors.


The Requirements

  • Applicants should have (1) a minimum of 5 passes in HKCEE or 5 HKDSE subjects with at least Level 2 or equivalent, including English, Chinese, and Mathematics; or (2) any post-secondary qualification;
  • A university degree in sports science, biomedical research, information engineering, or a relevant discipline is an advantage;
  • A minimum of six months' part-time experience in research or statistical analysis or having been an athlete within a high-performance system and exposed to statistical analysis or research is an advantage;
  • Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team;
  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese. Ability to speak Putonghua is an advantage;
  • Hands-on experience in computer software applications such as Microsoft Excel and Word; and
  • Awareness/ knowledge of Child Protection in sports and equal opportunity issues in the context of Hong Kong.
