Doping Control
The HKSI Doping Control Programme was launched in 1996 to counter the potential for problems associated with the use of banned substances. Since its establishment, the Sport Biochemistry Unit has planned and implemented the doping control programme. The Doping Control Programme consists of an education programme and a drug-testing programme.
Drug-testing program
The HKSI Drug-testing Programme is focused on scholarship athletes who are required and have agreed to submit themselves for drug testing as and when requested by representatives of the HKSI. Both out-of-competition testing and in-competition testing are held.
The HKSI also collects and test urine samples from other elite athletes in Hong Kong. In particular, random test are conducted on athlete selected to represent Hong Kong in major events such as the Olympic Games, the Asian Games, and the All-China Games when requested to do so by the Organising Committee of the Hong Kong delegation.
NSAs can also request the HKSI to conduct drug testing at locally held regional and international competitions. Testing includes local and overseas athletes. All test results are directed to the Organising Committee of the event for any further action that may be required. Events covered in this way include:

Education Program
A great deal of time and effort is spent on the most important part of the Doping Control Programme - education. The programme is aimed at athletes, coaches and sport officials alike, with the importance of the message passed to the relevant personnel through:
- Education pamphlets and wallet cards
- Sport specific workshops organised for each of the HKSI's Elite Sport. With different sports applying different rules and regulations, sports specific workshops often offer a better way of getting the message across.
- Workshop prior to major games are used to remind participants of the need to pay attention to doping related issues. These workshops are often co-organised with the Organising Committee of the Hong Kong delegation.
- The HKSI also participate actively in other opportunities designed to promote the concept of drug free sport and to assist with development of doping control in Hong Kong. Examples include:
