Education and Career Services
Athlete Affairs provides HKSI Scholarship athletes with career, education and personal development services as well as transitional support through personal and sporting changes.
On education, scholarship athletes enjoy a great range of education services such as school referrals, academic guidance, consultations and tutorials that dovetail with their training and competition programmes. Subsidies on tuition fees are also available.
Creating post-sport education opportunities with tertiary education institutions is an important element in career transition. The eight UGC funded institutions including the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University, the University of Science and Technology, Lingnan University, and the Hong Kong Institute of Education, are pleased to continue and enhance their support to elite athletes, to defer commencement of studies after admission, grant them leave to undergo training and take in competitions, and allow them to extend their period of study while competing intensively.
On career, personal development training courses are run to help athletes develop skills in public speaking and media presentation, financial planning, time management and communication . The Athlete Affairs Department will also help athletes make an informed career choice upon their retirement, help them plan for the future and help identify potential career interests, source of employment opportunities as appropriate. Athletes need to be 100% focused on their sporting career. To achieve this, athletes must be comfortable about what will happen in their life after sport. We are delighted to receive continuous support from the commercial partners to provide job opportunities to retiring or retired athletes to enable them acquire on-the-job training and successfully embark on a new career after sports.
