Hong Kong Sports Institute Presented Cash Awards to Asian Games Bronze Medallist Lam Man-shing

(22 May 2007) Lam Man-shing from bodybuilding won Hong Kong an extra bronze medal at the Doha Asian Games where Hong Kong athletes achieved outstanding results last December, adding the territory's medal tally to a total of 29 including 6 gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze medals at the Games. The Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) presented a cash prize of HK$50,000 to the bodybuilder through the Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme for the 2006 Asian Games and Far East & South Pacific Games for the Disabled with the total cash awards amounting to HK$4,821,000.

Dr Eric Li, Chairman of the HKSI, is pleased with the news. "Hong Kong athletes' remarkable performance at the 2006 Asian Games has drawn higher concern from the government, the public and the media on the needs of the HKSI in nurturing elite athletes. We are so glad to see that Lam Man-shing has won a medal at his first debut at the Asian Games," said Dr Li.

Due to the fact that the silver medallist (men's 90kg & below) from Korea at the Doha Asian Games had failed the doping test, the Syrian athlete would be granted the silver medal while Hong Kong's Lam Man-shing would receive a bronze medal at the Games.
